| Position Title Embedded Software Engineer Division Mining Systems ndash US Location Tucson Arizona Reports To Software Development Manager About Us With close to 200 years of pioneering solutions to measure the world Leica Geosystems Mining has positioned itself as a global market leader delivering fleet management product optimization high precision GPS guidance and autonomous machine control for the mining industry Join a dynamic team with a wellestablished global company Purpose of Position Many types of field devices are designed internally by Leica Geosystems Mining These devices frequently include custom boards and other custom hardware components Specialized software components are required to be developed in these situations The Embedded Software Engineer will assume a dedicated role engineering resources in this area by handling this type of development tasks The Embedded Software Engineer will be responsible for the following Implementation of software components responsible for support of proprietary hardware components and custom hardware Respond quickly to product and part obsolescence GPS engines software packages Provide inhouse knowledge of OpenWRT Linux distribution Provide inhouse expertise in crosscompilation tools Required Skills and Abilities Custom hardware and internal software interfaces Adapting platforms to new uses and new product ideas Linux platform development with knowledge of underlying hardware and low level protocols Provide understanding of standards CAN USB SPI FTDI serial GPIO AVR interface and power management Embedded open source software development Debugging at hardware level debugging embedded software systems Knowledge of ObjectiveC C C++ computer languages and Unix development environment Decisions Expected Referred to Higher Authority Approval for expenditure Any decision that will adversely affect budget or incur a service level agreement penalty Clarification of business priorities or urgent escalations Qualifications Experience Required EducationCredentials BS in Engineering field Experience Demonstrated work experience as software engineer (68 year) Previous work experience in mines highly desirable Critical Knowledge Skills Abilities Skills Abilities Willingness to learn new skills and be trained in Leicarsquos electronic products Keen interest in providing a superior level of work Ability to work proactively with minimal supervision Ability to work effectively in a team environment Strong written and verbal communication skills Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills Travel Some Travel (interstate intrastate and overseas) will be required for this role up to 10 Physical Demands Whilst performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to stand walk use hands to finger handle or feel and reach with hands and arms The employee is regularly required to sit climb or balance stoop kneel crouch or crawl and talk or hear The employee must regularly lift andor move up to 30 pounds frequently lift andor move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift andor move more than 100 pounds Specific vision abilities required by this job include color vision peripheral vision depth perception and ability to adjust focus Work Environment While performing the duties of this job the employee may be exposed to moving mechanical parts and high precarious places The noise level in the work environment is sometimes loud This job description in no way states or implies that these are the only duties to be performed by the employee occupying this position Employees will be required to follow any other jobrelated instructions and to perform any other jobrelated duties requested by their supervisor This document does not create an employment contract implied or otherwise other than an ldquoat willrdquo employment relationship Leica Geosystems is an Equal Opportunity Employer |
