| PurposeTo provide technical H323 and SIPbased telephony and network engineering support and analysis in a broad range of information technology areas including the planning design development installation operation and enhancement of SMUDrsquos enterprise and departmental applications to ensure an effective stable and reliable IP telecommunications environment that meets the needs of the organization Essential FunctionsPrimary responsibilities are to Provide Voice over IP (VoIP) technology expertise and associated technical support evaluating and resolving complex technical issues related to SMUDrsquos call center technology enterprise telephony and comunicationcollaboration systems Plan design implement configure administer and maintain all Avaya IP telephony applications and related systems and networks Consult and work collaboratively with internal departments and vendors to maintain system redundancy and uptime in a 24x7x365 environment Ensure quality applications are delivered according to SMUD and industry best practices Perform IP network analysis and monitoring to insure peak performance in support of voice traffic ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 1 Provide systems integration and maintenance support for patches upgrades modifications and additions to SMUDrsquos enterprise and call center telephony applications Work with other IT network hardware and server administration groups to maintain IP telephony application servers 2 Provide technical expertise solving complex system integration and performance problems Perform operational and administration tasks and configuration changes Recommend operational and system integration enhancements Respond to customer inquiries Maintain system integrity and performance by tracking and monitoring IP telephony call and network statistics as well as other performance metrics Resolve system issues and trouble calls by working with vendors and internal workgroups 3 Assist in planning reviewing and conducting work activities and researching required project information associated with department internalexternal projects in accordance with established task objectives and project plancontract schedules Leadsproject manages small to medium sized projects 4 Willingness to work extended hours as workload and deadlines require be oncall 24x7 on a rotational basis to respond to operational issues make formal presentations as necessary Minimum QualificationsEXPERIENCE At least 3 years of IP telephony and telecommunication systems design administration configuration and support experience to include call center andor enterprise telephony components Familiarity with VoIP networking concepts and some Linux andor Microsoft enterprise server integration and maintenance experience is required EDUCATION BABS degree from an accredited college or university majoring in Telecommunications Computer Science MIS or related field or equivalent experience KNOWLEDGE OF Network and VoIP systems design and operation Telecommunications configuration and design knowledge of Unified CommunicationsUnified Messaging including familiarity with enterprise applications such as Microsoft Exchange Microsoft OCS etc familiarity with server operating systems (Red Hat Linux Windows 2008) and application software networking tools used for monitoring and troubleshooting understanding of networking concepts (specifically VLAN QoS PoE) knowledge of voice and data communication protocols (specifically H323 SIP LDAP RTP LLDP) analytical methods and techniques infrastructure planning and design concepts of the system development lifecycle solid testing methodologies understanding of traditional TDM technologies and how they integrate into an IP communications environment NOTE YOU WILL experience was acquired Experience Required3 years Education RequiredHigh School Diploma Desirable Qualificationsbull Strong understanding of networking technologies including TCPIP DHCP TFTP VLAN QoS VoIP SIP Trunking and MPLS bull Knowledge of LANWAN security concepts bull Prior experience with SIPVoIP monitoring tools such as Prognosis The ability to analyze an endtoend protocol trace to identify network connectivity issues is highly desired bull Microsoft Exchange andor OCS experience bull Prior experience with Modular Messaging Aura (Avaya System Manager Avaya Session Manager Avaya
