DO NOT APPLY FOR THIS POSITION BY APPLYING THROUGH DICE OR BY SUBMITTING YOUR RESUME VIA EMAIL OR POSTAL MAIL APPLICATION MUST BE SUBMITTED ONLINE AT WWWDUSDNET RESUMES MAY BE ATTACHED TO YOUR ONLINE APPLICATION BUT WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED IN LIEU OF DISTRICT APPLICATION FORMS THE DEADLINE FOR SUBMITTING APPLICATIONS IS FEBRUARY 28 2013 400 PM The District Downey Unified School District is located in Southern California approximately twelve miles south of Los Angeles near attractive Southland beaches and mountain areas and convenient to the downtown Los Angeles cultural center The District on property encompassing 138 square miles serves approximately 22500 students in grades K12 and has an extensive adult school program The District is governed by a sevenmember Board of Education and served by a central administrative staff It is a merit system district with a threemember Personnel Commission administering the principles of the merit system relating to the classified personnel program The District employs approximately 1000 certificated and 750 classified employees In addition there are approximately 95 management team members Benefits The successful candidate will earn 22 days vacation per year three management compensation days per year paid holidays and 14 days of illness leave with unlimited accumulation Downey Unified School District offers two excellent medical plans Blue Shield and Kaiser Permanente two dental plans Great West and Safeguard and Vision Service Plan (VSP) Currently employees pay 10 of the premium cost for these plans All plans are available to the employee and their dependents Retirement benefits include membership in PERS (Public Employees Retirement System) and Social Security (OASDI) This is a joint contribution plan Additionally the District encourages employees to pursue professional growth and provides financial incentive for classified employees completing professional growth programs Additional benefits available to employees to which the District does not contribute include life insurance a Section 125 Flexible Benefit Plan an income protection plan and a credit union The Position The successful candidate in this position working under the direction of the Information Technologies Manager will perform a variety of specialized duties in the installation configuration maintenance and operation of the Districts Local (LAN) and Wide Area (WAN) networks servers and related equipment monitor and evaluate network systems and servers to assure proper operation provide assistance to network users and technical support staff prepare costbenefit analysis of hardwaresoftware solutions oversee network security and manage the daily activities and operations of the data center servers and equipment Essential Job Functions Provide leadership to implement Districtwide comprehensive system design develop and monitor feasibility studies assist in the development of requests for proposal write functional and technical system specifications Plan organize control and administer the Districts network data and technology support operations and activities assure compliance with applicable laws codes rules and regulations maintain confidentiality of sensitive and privileged information Install configure and maintain network servers using software such as Microsoft Windows Apple OS X or Linux design and implement server upgrades Design and implement database backup and recovery strategies and procedures Monitor and evaluate the performance of networking equipment firewalls and servers through troubleshooting and use of diagnostic programs resolve network performance and connectivity issues adjust network efficiency to provide the best possible performance implement and enforce the enterprise network security policy and remote access standards and guidelines For additional job duties please refer to the job description for this job classification Minimum Qualifications Include Any combination equivalent to bachelors degree in computer science or a closely related field three years fulltime experience working in Windows server administration and two years experience installing and maintaining local and wide area networks and related equipment Valid California drivers license Must be and remain insurable under the Districts vehicle drivers insurance policy at the standard rate Professional certification by a major vendor such as Novell Cisco or Microsoft is highly preferred See job description for expected knowledge skills and abilities
