| The Dow Chemical Company has an immediate opening for a Research Development Software Developer in Information Research (IR) This position is ideally located in Midland MI but can also be located in Spring House PA and UrbanaChampaign IL This group provides leading edge information technology (IT) capability and information resources to meet strategic RD initiatives IR team members bring a combination of Information Technology RD experience and physical science knowledge to develop capabilities and analysis that help deliver RD growth commitmentsOur major technologies and expertise available include RD Enterprise Architecture Scientific Application Development Scientific HighPerformance Computing (HPC) Scientific Data Integration and Analysis Laboratory Automation Services (Automation Robotics and Data Capture) Technology Search and Analysis Intellectual Property Management This position is aligned to the Research Computing department Areas of focus will include all facets of software development in Research Informatics through the use of new and existing technologies As a software developer in Dow RD the successful candidate will develop next generation applications that enable research at Dow Chemical Software developers dive deep into code and work as part of a team of programming experts who solve problems and build powerful new tools for researchers and RD decision makers The successful candidate will be engaged as part of a team in a variety of activities mainly geared around modeling or extracting data from robotic applications or High Throughput systems QUALIFICATIONS A Bachelorrsquos degree is the minimum requirement for this position Ideally the candidate will be educated in both science and computer disciplines Graduates in Computer Science or Computer Engineering are highly desired Graduates in the physical sciences (Chemistry Chemical Engineering and Physical Chemistry) who have at least 2 years of experience in developing software applications geared to research (ie modeling web development) will also be considered The ideal candidate will have a passion for software development Excellent programming skills are required A minimum of 2 years of academic or industry experience with object oriented programming languages preferably C is required Candidates with C++ and Java experience will also be considered The following skills andor experiences are highly desired Familiarity with data structures and algorithms feature definition design and feasibility databases and Agile methodologies Familiarity with Entity Framework MVC Javascript Knockoutjs and Jquery Ability to translate technical specifications into working code and solve complex problems with consideration of the end user experience Excellent communication skills are required The successful candidate must be a team player This position will work across geographic boundaries with project leadership other Subject Matter Experts Support Network and client base Travel up to approximately 10 may be required A minimum requirement for this US based position is the ability to work legally in the United States on a permanent basis (must be a US citizen US Permanent Resident or qualifying Asylee Refugee) About DowDow (NYSE DOW) combines the power of science and technology to passionately innovate what is essential to human progress The Company connects chemistry and innovation with the principles of sustainability to help address many of the worlds most challenging problems such as the need for clean water renewable energy generation and conservation and increasing agricultural productivity Dows diversified industryleading portfolio of specialty chemical advanced materials agrosciences and plastics businesses delivers a broad range of technologybased products and solutions to customers in approximately 160 countries and in high growth sectors such as electronics water energy coatings and agriculture In 2011 Dow had annual sales of 60 billion and employed approximately 52000 people worldwide The Companys more than 5000 products are manufactured at 197 sites in 36 countries across the globe References to Dow or the Company mean The Dow Chemical Company and its consolidated subsidiaries unless otherwise expressly noted More information about Dow can be found at httpwwwdowcom httpwwwdowcom Dow is an equal employment opportunity employer We offer a competitive salary and benefit package including medical dental life insurance 401(k) pension plan employee stock purchase plan paid vacation and holidays |
