SUMMARY: As a member of the IT Infrastructure team, the IP telephony engineer has a role of coordinate the strategies for defining, deploying, and maintaining the company’s in-house IP telephony voice communication architecture and its associated network connections and component hardware. This includes managing all engineering projects for VoIP initiatives, planning technology roadmaps, and configuring and optimizing all VoIP/IP-PBX telephone systems and services, both internally and those integrated with Internet based services. Also, the IP telephony engineer mandate will be to maintain SLAs for all organizational IP telephony applications. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Design the VoIP infrastructure and its associated software, including IP-PBXs, call management systems, voice mail, and interactive voice response Configure, deploy, fine-tune, monitor, maintain, upgrade, troubleshoot, support and repair the global IP telephony network as required Plan for management or phasing out of legacy telephony systems and other switch-based technologies Select, deploy, and utilize appropriate tools for reporting and routing of IP telephony traffic on the network Remain current on new transport protocols, products, and standards in support of VoIP systems development and equipment procurement Integrate IP telephony systems with enterprise LANs, WANs, wireless LANs, and other Internet-based services and protocols Implement new VoIP products or services, as well as the technical resources required to manage them Collaborate with help desk to resolve trouble tickets and mitigate end-user issues with VoIP hardware and/or applications Assist with the installation planning and maintenance of network cabling, including MDF and IDF closets Monitor and identify capacity and performance issues for VoIP traffic to ensure continued, uninterrupted operation of telephony systems Collaborate with network engineers or administrators to ensure that VoIP traffic does not interfere with or hinder network data traffic Conduct testing and development disaster recovery plans to detect faults, minimize malfunctions, and backup systems Define, document and implement strategy, direction, and architectures for the global IP telephony network environment. This requires extensive and broad functional experience with switching, routing, firewall, VPN, wireless, content networking, and network management systems across a wide range of complex architectures, platforms and mediums Look for ways to provide enhancements to existing IP telephony services. Make recommendations, define the ROI, and implement these improvements using an accepted change control methodology process Utilize Carrier portals (ex: AT&T Business Direct) to create, monitor, and review incidents in addition to reports/graphs on demand Organize monthly/weekly reporting and metrics as needed Managing assigned projects and program components to deliver services in accordance with established objectives Design, installation, programming, and service for all phone systems, cable infrastructure, and bandwidth solutions sold Responding to inquiries from staff, administrators, service providers, site personnel and outside vendors to ensure technical assistance and support Supervise the installation, monitoring, maintenance, support, and optimization of all IP telephony infrastructure, hardware, software and communication links Maintaining and administering perimeter security systems such as firewalls and intrusion detection systems Modifies and maintains IP telephony security policy Responsible for the operational monitoring of the voice and network infrastructures Responsible for the escalation of voice and network faults or performance issues to the next level Responsible for carrying out approved changes to the voice and network infrastructures Liaise and coordinate with international counterparts for various project implementations Must have a strong working knowledge of standard network and Internet networking technologies Knowledge of IP routing, Internet and networking technologies, NAT, routing protocols, and network security, Firewalls, Proxies and VPN Coordinate with internal global contacts for projects and global/regional initiatives; participate in conference calls held during local and other time zones Maintain the wiring closets, local server rooms and related infrastructure, structured cabling, stabilized power supply and air conditioning in operational conditions Experience defining and monitoring network services levels contracted with various 3rd parties Ensuring the accuracy of hardware and global circuit inventories Participate in 24x7 on-call rotation Any other duties as assigned by management. EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: Degree in Engineering/Computer Science or equivalent experience Minimum 8+ years’ experience of Cisco IP telephony infrastructure support and administration 8+ years of direct engineering and design experience in IP telephony working in a global enterprise network preferred, domestic experience in a geographically dispersed environment would be acceptable Current CCNA Voice preferred. CCNP Voice preferred. Expertise in creating repeatable, reliable, scalable IP telephony architectures, with fault tolerance, performance tuning, monitoring systems, statistics/metrics collection, and disaster recovery Expert working knowledge (including the ability to setup, configure, upgrade, manage, and troubleshoot Cisco IP servers, routers, switches, gateways, 802.11 wireless access points, and load balancers Understanding of transport protocols, routing protocols, and security/authentication protocols at all layers of the OSI model with emphasis on TCP/IP are essential Must have knowledge of networking features and protocols such as SIP, H.323, TCP/IP, spanning tree, ARP, CDP, EIGRP, RIP, OSPF, BGP, VTP, Etherchannel, 802.1Q trunking, MLS, HSRP, QoS, multicast, 802.11, IPsec, Frame Relay, RADIUS/TACACS+, SNMP, T-1/E-1, BRI/PRI, MPLS, Carrier based LAN (MetroE or TLS) , Point to Point carrier technologies Additional areas of expertise in areas such as WLAN, and AV are preferred Experience with network management tools. (ex: Solarwinds) Strong understanding of VoIP QoS issues and mitigation strategies. Must be able to handle pressure and work with multiple vendors/outsourcers to resolve complex technical issues. Experience supporting Windows and UNIX products systems/applications on networking technologies. Certifications and/or experience equivalent to MCSE, Solaris, and Linux are desirable. Experience with stringent change control processes and ITIL foundations Strong documentation and communication skills. Must be able to articulate technical details within multiple levels of the organization, including non-technical groups Technical, analytical and interpersonal skills required Ability to create clear and concise documentation Hands-on experience implementing and administrating Cisco network devices: Firewalls, Network switches, Routers, VPN, Wireless Access Points, Voice Services, Remote access, Video Conferencing The candidate will be asked to demonstrate their abilities during the technical interview.
