The City of Seattles Department of Information Technology (DoIT) is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Senior Software Developer in the Communications Technologies Division The Department of Information Technology provides technology leadership for the City enterprise developing common standards architectures and business solutions to deliver City services more efficiently and effectively DoIT is responsible for citywide technology governance strategic planning and policy development and programs that promote technology literacy and public access to government information The department manages the Citys technology infrastructure which includes the Citys data center communications networks and end user support and customer services activities Job Number Req DoIT201202043 Job Title Senior Software Developer (Ordinance Title IT ProfessionalB) Status RegularFull Time Shift Day Shift Filing Close Date Tuesday February 5 2013 400pm PST Openings 1 Opening Salary 3436 to 5154 (Hourly) DOE Division Communications Technologies Location Seattle Municipal Tower Position Duties Position reports to Integration Team Manager Under minimal supervision provide application development and programming support to Communications Technologies Division and other City departments Perform analytical technical and application development tasks design and develop applications to integrate with various platforms coordinate implement maintain and troubleshoot all applications in support of Communications Technologies Division DoIT and other City departments Work with clients to understand develop design build and maintain applications to fulfill business requirements Create project plans specifications and operating procedures create user and system documentation for new or existing applications assist with development of project estimates and initiate enhancements to applications Coordinate implementation plans recommend and coordinate enhancements recommend patches and upgrades recommend strategy for daily and monthly application and system backups provide basic user training maintain applications and various data warehouses Provide technical advice and support to section staff Assist in evaluating vendor hardware and software products within DoIT Required Qualifications BA degree in computer science computer technology or related field Five years programming and technical troubleshooting experience Proficient in Visual Basic JavaJ2EEJ2ME CC++ C HTML XML ASP SQL ASPNET ADONET VBNET JQuery AJAX MVC Silverlight Cloud application servers such as IIS NET or J2EE and all Microsoft Operating systems MS Office Suite developmentrelational database tools (ERwin) databases (Oracle SQL Server) Visual Studio 2010 and above Eclipse Windows web and mobile technology Knowledgeable in all phases of software development life cycle Strong oral and written communication skills in order to convey technical information to nontechnical staff or customers Ability to handle multiple tasks and deadlines maintain confidentiality and a sense of humor use good judgment and discretion and interact with diverse workforce within the City and other agencies throughout the county Able to be innovative resourceful and reliable work within a team have excellent troubleshooting skills and be able to quickly learn various automated systems NOTE Employment contingent upon successful completion of comprehensive background investigation NOTE Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered for the required qualifications except where specifically noted Desired Qualifications Well versed in Novell and Active Directory UNIX Informix NortelAvaya switching Cisco switching Windstreams Pinnacle application VXML knowledge is a plus Familiar with terminal emulationcommunications such as ProComm Plus Hummingbird Exceed MultiView Spry Putty etc General knowledge of internal external wireless and POS (point of sale) modems routers telephone switches and other telecommunications equipment Working knowledge of various protocols (ODBC and SNMP) and signaling systems Ability to assimilate various business processes and relate them to other systems Citywide Broad level of understanding of warehousing accounting and billing processes Available for 24x7 oncall operational troubleshooting carry pager or remote access communication Information on How to Apply Apply online at wwwseattlegovjobs or complete an application and drop it off at the Personnel Department Seattle Municipal Tower 700 5th Avenue Suite 5400 Seattle WA 981244028 Please refer to Job DoIT201202043 The City of Seattle is an Equal Opportunity Employer that values diversity in the workplace
