Job Description
| The Senior Developer reports directly to the Marketing Director and is responsible for the strategic development of innovative tools products applications and databases for the Human Rights Campaigns online properties and social media sites This individual must possess an expert knowledge of and passion for online organizing and reaching audiences through a variety of engaging mediums This is a midlevel position and is covered by the collective bargaining unit agreement between HRC and the Service Employees International Union Position Responsibilities The Senior Developer develops strategic interactive campaigns and tools using a PHPMySQL framework and Expression Engine content management system This position is responsible for scoping and building dynamic tools from the ground up developing CMS templates integrating webbased applications and APIs developing Facebook applications and coding new web interfaces for existing applications while staying abreast of new technologies and innovative ways to communicate The successful candidate must provide technical expertise thrive as a member of a small team in a fastpaced environment and gracefully manage lastminute changes in timelines and scope Key responsibilities include Creating design comps for internal stakeholders and turning those comps into functional Expression Engine templates Collaborating with team members and internal stakeholders to spec out and build frontend web applications Serving as the production lead which includes adding new features and content types writing and maintaining clean code and making sure websites function across multiple browsers and mobile devices Implementing and writing small scripts ability to write plugins is a plus Managing development workflow and version control Managing team and internal stakeholder expectations and translating requests from nontechnical people into technical requirements Balancing scope and timelines and meeting deadlines prioritizing tasks and communicating in a busy environment Designing coding and testing independently as well as working jointly with the team Proactively monitoring and troubleshooting infrastructure issues and application performance Implementing web best practices and building products that are strongly rooted in creating seamless user experiences Defining and documenting technical architectures Other duties as assigned Position Qualifications Bachelors degree is required At least 5 years experience developing webbased applications on PHP CMS and MYSQL platforms like Expression Engine WordPress and Drupal Strong knowledge of modern Web Standards (HTML5 CSS3) Strong knowledge of Web 20 with an emphasis on social media integration JavaScriptjQuery experience Interest in or experience with responsive design jQuery mobile or other approaches to designing for mobile users An eye for typography whitespace and other details at the intersection of design and code Capacity to learn quickly and integrate new technologies desire to work in a fastpaced environment team player with a positive attitude Project management experience including the ability to manage multiple projects and set and meet tight deadlines Excellent written and verbal communicationpresentation skills Experience working with Convios API and its integration in third party platforms a plus Experience with ecommerce web security andor developing mobile apps a plus Knowledge of SEO SEM SSH and Google Analytics a plus To Apply Please Submit A resume with a cover letter explaining your interest Links to past websites youve developed and an overview of your involvement Links to 3 articles you value as a reference or tactic for web developers |
