The Samuel Roberts Noble Foundation Inc (httpwwwnobleorg) is a nonprofit research institute with a vision to influence agriculture by exploring and improving production agriculture techniques and advancing plant science through research and discovery The Foundation is one of the worlds leaders in interpretation of the Medicago genome and in bioenergy crops including switchgrass alfalfa and tall fescue The Foundation has made substantial investments to enhance its bioinformatics infrastructure which has resulted in the need for more bioinformatics professionals As a Bioinformatics Specialist the successful candidate will report to the Director of the Computing Services Department The successful candidate will provide quality bioinformatics services to internal and external researchers while also contributing to applied research in a team environment in order to enhance the Foundations bioinformatics and research support team For more information regarding the Computing Services department visit httpwwwnobleorgrecruitingcomputingservices Qualifications A minimum of a Masterrsquos degree in bioinformatics computer science or a related field are required A doctorate in one of these areas is highly preferred Also required are experience andor familiarity with nextgeneration sequence (ie Solexa 454 etc) gene expression data (ie microarray and RNAseq) and knowledge of basic molecular biology genomics genetics and transcriptomics concepts and techniques The ideal candidate will be required to have common programming or scripting languages (ie LINUX and relational databases) Job Summary Provide bioinformatics and data analysis services to researchers Essential Functions(95) bull Provide bioinformatics services to assist scientific problem solving in a broad range of research topics Typical daily work includes custom data management processing visualization sequence and functional genomics analysis and marker design bull Work closely with investigators and fellow team members to assist in data analysis and provide expert consultation technical and scientific support bull Assist with grant applications and manuscript writing related to algorithm and informatics components bull Design training materials and present training sessions to educate researchers in use of available bioinformatics tools bull Search for and utilize existing open source or commercial solutions to scientific problems write custom scripts when existing tools do not already exist bull Document requests archive results and provide billing information when appropriate computer science or a related field PhD preferred Experience Experience andor familiarity with bull Nextgeneration sequence (eg Solexa 454 etc) analysis including short sequence alignment reference and de novo assembly bull Gene expression data (eg microarray and RNAseq) analysis such as clustering correlation and other statistical methods bull Basic molecular biology genomics genetics and
