Job Description
| The selected candidate will have the responsibility to provide operational leadership at the Max Planck Florida Institute for Neuroscience Responsibilities will include tactical oversight of the information technology department consisting of cyber infrastructure and user support and providing an interface between IT infrastructure and biological research IT intensive activities ongoing or planned at the MPFIN include large scale imaging bioinformatics image analysis and archiving of data Requirements Familiarity with dataintensive scientific environments At least 5 years experience in IT support Knowledge of database design concepts and the software life cycle Knowledge of software licensing concepts and implementations In depth knowledge of UNIX LINUX and Windows environments Knowledge of storage concepts and in particular scaleout NAS Experience in architecting and managing highlyavailable robust and scalable enterprise services in a technologically diverse environment Experience with data archiving and disaster recovery Good communication and interpersonal skills Desired Skills Awareness of the strengths and weaknesses of programming languages (Python Perl Java) Own software development skills not necessary Familiarity with automated software installation and management tools Familiarity with data analysis applications such as MATLAB Familiarity with image analysis applications such as ImageJ In addition to the core technical skills the MPFIN is seeking a highly motivated proactive thinker bringing enthusiasm to the position and a passion to solve problems before they undermine the productivity of research A team player mentality and perseverance in problem solving is a must |
