Day Schoolan independent coeducational Nursery through Grade 8 parish school on two campuses in the nations capital seeks its first Director of Information Technology (DIT) in anticipation of substantial growth over the next several years and in an effort to position itself more effectively for the independent school market of the future Because of St Patricks position as an institution determined to be a leader in educational innovation the DIT will have responsibility for both the daytoday implementation and maintenance of our existing information communication systems and technology (ICST) across departments and the opportunity to help shape the innovative strategic vision that will inform our technology integration across all grade levels into the future The Day School considers this position to have two main components bigpicture thinker and handson implementer Both are described in more detail below As bigpicture thinker the DIT will deploy hisher expertise to engage in and ideally lead discussions at the administrative level about innovative instructional techniques and technology faculty and staff professional development pedagogical design (or redesign) and opportunities for facilitating collaboration between and among various stakeholders The DIT will participate in the visioning and strategic planning process for the future of the Day Schoolensuring that the school makes appropriate investments in both technical and human resources to position it to achieve its longterm goals As a corollary the DIT will actively engage in hisher own relevant professional development working to stay abreast of the newest thinking and best practices from leading organizations As handson implementer the DIT will engage with administration faculty and staff students parents and the broader community to extend and enable our responsible and creative use of existing technology and advocate for improvements and new ideas at the administrative level The DIT will develop relevant schoolwide technology policies manage the IT budget supervise IT staff and as necessary perform routine setup andor maintenance on technology infrastructure and provide support to endusers This position is ideal for a creative IT professional who understands how to apply and integrate technical knowledge in various settings While the ideal candidate will have some experience in the independent school world we encourage candidates without such experience but who have proven track records as innovative and entrepreneurial thinkers to apply I Responsibilities as BigPicture Thinker Strategic Provide strategic guidance and support on all aspects of Information Communication Systems and Technology Services In conjunction with the CIO Head of School and Administrative Team and in consultation with the Technology Coordinator provide direction for the use of ICST in the curriculum Manage ongoing and future development of ICSTrelated facilities FacilitationCollaboration Identify implement and manage the necessary tools to enable seamless collaboration among administration faculty and staff students parents and other relevant stakeholders with regard to all ICST services In collaboration with the Technology Coordinator generate excitement in the community regarding technology as a key instructional tool In collaboration with the Technology Coordinator work closely with teachers and instructional technologists on integrating technology seamlessly into classrooms on both campuses AcademicPedagogical In collaboration with the Technology Coordinator work with academic program and professional development leaders to develop and implement a technology plan In collaboration with the Technology Coordinator work with teachers and students at all levels to facilitate learning through the integration of technology Develop and ensure successful execution of strategies to train the various constituencies of the school in the use of technology II Responsibilities as Handson Implementer Operational Management of the LANWAN network infrastructure business continuity planning and cloudbased solutions Manage telephone system voicemail system and portions of security system Manage the Student Information System administrative data information systems and other specialty systems (eg calendar library etc) In conjunction with the Assistant Head of School for Enrollment Communication and Marketing and the Assistant Head of School for Development ensure the schools website is operating effectively and meeting the needs of all stakeholders Manage deployment and support of audiovisual resources Administrative Ensure that the daytoday ICST operations of the organization are operating optimally Maintain all budgets relating to ICST and AV services Manage and allocate responsibilities to ICST staff In collaboration with the Technology Coordinator conduct research and compile reports on technology related to school goalsmission Manage the recruitment and training of technology employees and evaluate the technology skills of teaching and administrative candidates Manage school policies that relate to appropriate and legal use of technology by students and employees KnowledgeSkills Knowledge of good administrative leadership principles Ability to set a vision plan implement and assess Ability to problemsolve toward effective solutions Excellent collaborative team and relationshipbuilding skills with supervisors peers and team members Interpersonal skills that nurture a strong sense of community among staff students and parents Ability to effectively evaluate assigned personnel and programs Confidence and ability to conceptually manage and interact with a variety of complex systems Demonstrated ability to implement technological change in a strategic secure and sustainable manner Qualifications Masters degree relevant to the responsibilities of the position (required) demonstrated experience in the educational technology arena (preferred) Innovative thinker who is able to effectively understand how technology works particularly in an educational environment Strong analytical technical capabilities and the ability to filter information from faculty and students and work through technology difficulties Ability to excel in collaborative elastic
