Job Description
| The Enterprise Technical Architect is responsible for providing deep technical domain expertise in multiple areas of technology including security network and unified communications and have breadth in servers storage database client computing and middleware domains The Enterprise Technical Architect must have experience with a broad range of technologies as a subject expert and thought leader with the ability to design complex solutions that span multiple technical domains He or she will be responsible for defining new technology components investigating technical alternatives and setting architectural direction providing insight coaching and guidance to other technical thought leaders and developing critical core technical solutions to enable new capabilities The Enterprise Technical Architect is a technical leader who is able to determine customer requirements understand technology trends forecast demand and synthesize these into innovative solutions that provide enhanced value The role will require close coordination with various corporate IT teams (eg engineering operations) Emerson groups and business units and vendors The primary location for this job will be in St Louis Occasional travel to other Emerson facilities may also be required RESPONSIBILITIES Understand advocate and augment the principles of business and IT mdash and more specifically enterprise architecture (EA) mdash strategies Analyze enterprise business context (trends and business strategy) to derive technical architecture Analyze the current technology environment to detect critical deficiencies and recommend solutions for improvement Analyze technology industry and market trends and determine their potential impact on the enterprise Sell the enterprise architecture process its outcome and ongoing results Define the principles that guide technology decisions for the enterprise Design and lead the implementation of the enterprise technical architecture (ETA) for a given domain based on business requirements and IT strategies as well as to rectify gaps and pain points within the current state Assist with designing the governance activities associated with ensuring ETA compliance Oversee or consult on technical architecture (for example systems) implementation and modification activities (for example projects) particularly for new andor shared infrastructure solutions Oversee and facilitate the evaluation and selection of hardware and software technology and product standards as well as the design of standard configurations Consult on application or infrastructure development projects to fit systems or infrastructure to the technical architecture and identify when it is necessary to modify the technical architecture to accommodate project needs Identify the organizational impact (for example on skills processes structures and culture) and financial impact of the ETA Document necessary technical architecture design and analysis work possibly including project postmortem documentation and metric collection Work closely with other resources in engineering and operations to develop critical architectures and platform solutions Conduct technical reviews and prepare recommendations to the Chief Architect Plan lead and actively participate in all aspects of technical trouble shooting and project support activities Create design and manage Emerson technical standards and product roadmaps Work with Emerson IT Architecture Emerson Business Units to understand business requirements translate these into technical specifications and communicate solutions results EDUCATION LANGUAGEEXPERIENCE Bachelors degree in Computer Science MIS Electrical Engineering or a related field of study Masters degree preferred Must have platform development experience with significant depth around architecting designing and implementing enterprise solutions specifically around UC Security and network domains Experience designing high availability and high capacity environments Experience should include work on strategic planning initiatives capacity planning trending and leveraging overall technical architecture knowledge across multiple engineering disciplines 3 5 years working experience in technical architecture required Detailed understanding of installation configuration and documentation to support technical designs and project execution Systems implementation skills including requirementsprocess analysis conceptual and detailed design configuration testing training change management and support Must be able to guide technology selection and conduct periodic architectural assessments for current and future states Exposure to multiple diverse technical configurations technologies and processing environments Exceptional interpersonal skills in areas such as teamwork facilitation and negotiation Strong leadership skills Excellent analytical and technical skills Excellent written and verbal communication skills Excellent planning and organizational skills Knowledge of all components of a technical architecture Knowledge of business process reengineering principles and processes Basic knowledge of financial models and budgeting Ability to understand the longterm (big picture) and shortterm perspectives of situations Ability to estimate the financial impact of technical architect |
