| SUMMARY The Data Base Administrator (DBA) is responsible for providing technical support for the database environment including overseeing the development and organization of the databases assessment and implementation of new technologies and providing Information Technology with a longterm perspective on the relationship of database technology to the business opportunities facing the company Provides and designs tools to assist in the management of the database and transaction processing environment Works to provide a working model of our transaction processing environment for capacity assessment and planning SUPERVISION EXERCISED No Supervision exercised EXAMPLES OF IMPORTANT AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES Develops a methodology for the ongoing assessment of database performance and the identification of problem areas Develops a security scheme for the database environment as well as assisting in disaster recovery if necessary Provides leadership during the development and enhancement of production applications including working with applications technical support and operations during the design development and implementation of applications Work with the transaction processing area to develop both the physical and the logical database administration functions and assists in the development of our processing database and computing environments Work with others in IT to build the logical database area and provide technical guidance during all phases of the development process Work with vendors in evaluating and implementing new technologies Database Administration middot Develop standards and guidelines to guide the use and acquisition of software and to protect vulnerable information middot Modify existing databases and database management systems or direct programmers and analysts to make changes middot Test programs or databases correct errors and make necessary modifications middot Plan coordinate and implement security measures to safeguard information in computer files against accidental or unauthorized damage modification or disclosure middot Approve schedule plan and supervise the installation and testing of new products and improvements to computer systems such as the installation of new databases middot Train users and answer questions Establish and calculate optimum values for database parameters Specify users and user access levels for each segment of database Develop data model describing data elements and how they are used following procedures and using pen template or computer software Develop methods for integrating different products so they work properly together such as customizing commercial databases to fit specific needs Review project requests describing database user needs to estimate time and cost required to accomplish project Review procedures in database management system manuals for making changes to database Work as part of a project team to coordinate database development and determine project scope and limitations Select and enter codes to monitor database performance and to create production database Identify and evaluate industry trends in database systems to serve as a source of information and advice for upper management Write and code logical and physical database descriptions and specify identifiers of database to management system or direct others in coding descriptions Review workflow charts developed by programmer analyst to understand tasks computer will perform such as updating records Revise company definition of data as defined in data dictionary data Nondisclosure of customer employee and business partner information Education A Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in computer science or a related field is required A Masterrsquos degree is desirable License or Certificate Possession of or ability to obtain an appropriate valid drivers license Special Requirements Essential duties require the following physical skills and work environment Ability to work in a standard office environment ability to travel to different sites and locations |
