Job Description
| Baylor College of Medicine and its Dan L Duncan Cancer Center (DLDCC) seek system administrator This position allows the successful candidate to utilize their domain knowledge communication problem solving and team work expertise to facilitate translational research as part of a multidisciplinary team including other system administrators database administrators bioinformaticists project managersbusiness analysts and software engineers The successful candidate will support a variety of basic translational and clinical cancer research projects in the Biomedical Informatics Group of the Biostatistics and Informatics Shared Resource (BISR) of the Dan L Duncan Cancer Center Required Skills Strong interpersonal and communication skills capable of writing purchase justifications training users in complex topics making presentations to an internal audience interacting positively with management and users developing and maintaining good relations with vendors and VARs Independent problemsolving time management selfdirection but must be able to work well in a team environment and able to receive directionassignments from multiple sources Comfortable with most aspects of UNIXLinux operating system administration for example configuration of typical networkunix services system installation and configuration fundamentals of system security system backups installing thirdparty software Has a solid understanding of a UNIXbased operating system understands paging and swapping interprocess communication devices and what device drivers do filesystem concepts (inode clustering logical partitions) Familiarity with fundamental networkingdistributed computing environment concepts understands DNS NFS SSH SSL etc can use nslookup or dig to check information in the DNS understands basic networking concepts understands basic system security and firewall concepts Ability to write scripts in some administrative language (Perl shell scripts) Ability to do debugging and modification of multiple JBOSS and Tomcat environments Familiarity with systems monitoring tools such as Nagios Ability to tune operating systems for different tasks such as databases application servers web servers file servers Support software application developers and provide tools systems and advice as needed Understands different network storage protocols with ability to administer network storage devices Required Background Five years of system administration experience A degree in computer science or a related field or commensurate experience Desirable Background and Skills Red Hat Enterprise Linux certifications JBOSS certifications VMware certifications Familiarity with Windows Server operating systems Other industry certifications Appropriate Responsibilities Receives general instructions for new responsibilities from supervisors Administers a complex heterogeneous site within a team Initiates some new responsibilities and helps system architects and supervisors to plan for the future of the sitenetwork Evaluates andor recommends purchases has strong influence on purchasing process Baylor College of Medicine is an Equal OpportunityAffirmative ActionEqual Access Employer Please apply directly to vacancy 227895JC at wwwmedschooljobsorg httpwwwmedschooljobsorg |
