The Director will lead senior engineering technologists responsible for delivering “Industry Strength” solutions leveraging ITIL and Best Practices, while lowering operational costs to the corporation. Position Details: The Director of Database Services is responsible for, but not limited to, the following: Lead, coach, and develop a team of senior technologists responsible for enterprise strategies, solutions and performance to deliver highly available products and services for all business products . Focus of responsibilities will be in the areas of data lifecycle management for all web subscription based news and business information platforms such as WSJ.com, Marketwatch.com, Newswires, Factiva, and Corporate systems Define enterprise services encompassing database products Build and cultivate executive relationships within business and IT organizations throughout Dow Jones and external partners Lead and participate in IT In-sourcing and Out-sourcing Governance and Leadership initiatives Lead IT Risk Management initiatives in line with industry and corporate Audit and Compliance strategies Lead the development and execution of Architecture, Engineering and Operational Roadmaps to meet business unit product offerings, marketing strategies and industry trends Demonstrate a strong understanding of database and cloud technologies that support high transactional e-commerce platforms and associated security requirements Develop talent pipeline for senior technologists and directs recruiting efforts internally and externally to fill talent requirements Promote growth of leadership skills in team in alignment with career development Work with the team to understand project portfolios and determine staffing needs for senior technologists, team leaders and managers during the annual demand planning cycle. Develop a sourcing approach for variable resources. Manage vendor relationships to ensure availability of high quality talent in a timely manner for project delivery. Understand skill and knowledge requirements for senior technologist and management roles, evaluates potential and ability of the team to develop team level and individualized training, development and recruitment plans. Works on a one on one basis with direct staff members to coach them towards the implementation of the development plans. Develops a consequence management system to build a high performance culture where the employees are highly satisfied. Define and implement methodology templates for total cost of ownership analysis, requirements gathering, infrastructure design, and peer reviews. Develop a culture and process for re-use of solutions templates across projects thereby simplifying the solutions engineering process and improving the productivity of the resources.
