| Job Description & Responsibilities: The incumbent will support the Earth Science Data and Information Systems (ESDIS) Project at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, MD. This position will help identify requirements, define architectures, evaluate solutions and manage the implementation of data services for over 5PB of NASA Earth Science data. The Data Services Architect will focus on evaluating technologies, developing plans, creating prototypes, preforming trade studies and providing engineering analysis for technologies that will transform how users interact with NASA Earth Science Data Centers. The candidate will support and manage on-going activities providing engineering analysis, trade studies, reports, developing and documenting application-level requirements, presentations, and aid for collaboration activities, including web sites, weekly conference calls, etc. The candidate should have a solid understanding of emerging technologies for data storage, transformation, and retrieval including implementation of services such as OPeNDAP, Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC), web services, cloud-computing, etc. A background in Earth science data, processing, archiving, and distribution methods with an understanding of the analytic purposes to which the data is used is highly desirable. Required Skills: Position requires a solid understanding of contemporary technologies coupled with a demonstrated practical experience with data-related services e.g., OPeNDAP, OGC, Web mapping, Web Processing, Cloud computing, etc. Selectee must have excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills for professional representation of NASA’s strategic interests during face-to-face meetings, telecons, and multi-user forums and presentations. The successful candidate will be relied upon to compile emails, presentations, and complex documents that will be sent/used throughout NASA Earth Science community of associated users and partners, with specific understanding and sensitivity to international partnerships and concerns. Must have excellent organizational, time management, project management skills, and requirement gathering/documentation skills and be able to work independently and/or as part of a team, building strong working relationships with internal and external teams and partners. Demonstrated analytical and engineering experience is required. Plus: Background in science data processing, product development, etc… Education / Experience: A minimum of a BS in science related curriculums, computer science, or related field. |
