Responsibilities Application build engineer will be responsible for working very closely with the Application Development Team. This person is required to have a strong Linux Sys Admin experience, along with application configuration, optimization and tuning of Apache Web Servers including knowledge of httpd.conf settings and redirects, JBoss, Tomcat, SSL, DNS, Network, Load balancers. Primary focus of this position will be to: Install and configure to Linux based development environments and build creation using tools like RPM, Lunt Build, Maven, Hudson, SVN, etc. Tuning - Person would be required to possess good trouble shooting and analysis skills as they would be required to Optimize various application and web server parameters Work closely with System Engineering, Networking Engineering and Development teams on the design and implementation of application components. Working out load balancer rules and network routes Work closely with other operations teams to identify and deliver utilities for enhancing the reliability and manageability of application components and these servers Perform on-call support by providing immediate responses to high priority requests for assistance by the 24/7 Operations teams Provide after hours and weekend support as needed Train Operations personnel on applications and system procedures Be able to document and / or assist in documenting application logic, process flows, and configurations Establish and follow a structured methodology for implementing system changes, configuration modifications and application upgrades Participate in the ongoing processes of investigating, analyzing and providing long term resolutions to technical issues Required Skills Degree in Computer Science or a related technical or scientific field or related, equivalent experience Excellent experience on SDLC and working closely with the development team 5 years experience in UNIX / Linux operations / administration, including creation, installation and maintenance of RPMs and OS level debugging and performance tuning Strong shell scripting experience Strong Red Hat Enterprise Level OS skills including system management, tuning & optimization and problem solving Experience with multiple core technologies, including IP networking and various internet technologies Extensive experience installing, configuring, tuning and maintaining Apache Web servers Experience in any middleware technologies such as Tomcat or JBOSS Understanding of SSL and experience in configuring apache and JBOSS/ tomcat SSL Experience in mod_rewrite, creating redirects, rewrites, compiling custom modules, etc Experience with Java development tools, web services, XML, WSDL, JMS Design, develop and maintain scripts / tools for automating application administration, management and monitoring 5 years programming/scripting experience in any of the common languages such as Bash, ANT, Java, Perl etc Experience with software management using Maven Experience with administration of Subversion/ CVS and CI tools such as Jenkins/Hudson Dow Jones, Making Careers Newsworthy At Dow Jones our Managers work to meet our equal opportunity and affirmative action objectives and our Employees help to foster a professional, welcoming and encouraging environment.
