Overview

CA Technologies is one of the world's largest software and computer service companies. Its products are used to manage, secure and store data on corporate networks, databases and other large computing systems. The Islandia, NY-based company’s applications work in older mainframe environments and in distributed computing systems, including desktop-based client environments and Internet-based software services.

The company, which also has a large IT consulting business, was called Computer Associates until May, 2010.

CA Technologies is making an aggressive push into the market for cloud computing services, which manage and host client applications via the Internet. In 2010, it acquired three privately-held firms focused on cloud computing -- 4Base Technology, Nimsoft and 3Tera.

CA Technologies laid off 1,000 employees in 2010.

Culture

In 2010, CA Technologies was named a recipient of CIO Magazine’s CIO 100 award, which recognizes excellence in information technology. The magazine recognized CA Technologies for its OneCA initiative, a program created to increase employee productivity and foster innovation within the company.

CA Technologies' Corporate New Hire Orientation Program provides step by step guidance through an employee’s first 30 days. Employees are also teamed with a mentor in their specific department.

Several US locations have an onsite fitness center that includes basketball courts, tennis courts, weight rooms, and exercise classes.
