Overview
Take-Two Interactive Software Inc. develops, publishes and licenses computer video games, including the best-selling Grand Theft Auto series and Sid Meier’s Civilization. Other well-known franchises include Manhunt, Max Payne, BiShock, Red Dead Revolver and TopSpin. The company produces titles for all major hardware platforms, including Sony's PlayStation, Microsoft's Xbox 360 and Nintendo's DS and Wii. Like its rivals, Take-Two is also making a major push into mobile games.
The company publishes and develops products through its two labels: Rockstar Games and 2K, which publishes its titles under 2K Games, 2K Sports and 2K Play. Licensed brands include the sports games Major League Baseball 2K, NBA 2K, and NHL 2K.
The creators of Grand Theft Auto have seen several lawsuits over the years that cite the game’s violent and sexual tones. Yet the series has become a global phenomenon and has included characters voiced by many Hollywood stars, including Ray Liotta, Burt Reynolds, Dennis Hopper, Gary Busey, Samuel L. Jackson, James Woods and Peter Fonda.
