Symantec Corp. was named one Fortune Magazine's Most Admired Companies in 2008. The company prides itself on its diverse, multinational workforce and offers a variety of programs that aim to raise awareness of cultural differences. Enrique Salem, Symantec’s president and chief executive officer, received the 2010 Estrella Award from the Hispanic IT Executive Council which recognizes individuals for their achievements in the IT industry and in the community. Symantec has launched a women’s initiative, with the goal of increasing the number of women in leadership, technical, and sales positions. Women currently make up more than a quarter of Symantec’s work force, consistent with women’s representation in the industry as a whole. The progarm slightly boosted hiring of women in 2008 compared to the previous year, while slightly lowering turnover.
