Overview

"

Finland’s Nokia Corp. is the world's top seller of mobile phones, with operations in 60 countries and U.S. offices in California, Florida, Georgia, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Texas, Washington and Washington, D.C. Nokia also sells wireless networking equipment to telecom service providers through a partnership with German giant Siemens AG. Nokia has three units: Mobile Solutions, Mobile Phones and Markets.

Nokia was among the first handset makers to offer thin, sleek phones and extra features such as digital cameras and slide-out keypads for easy texting. Yet the giant is facing increased pressure in the market for smart phones from Apple Inc.'s iPhone, Research In Motion Ltd.'s BlackBerry, and handsets that run on Google Inc.'s Android mobile operating system. To address the market competition, Nokia is carving out a business unit focused on smartphones and is launching a new line of products.

Culture

Nokia’s more unconventional benefits include pet insurance. Some of its U.S. locations offer on-site car detailing. Eligible employees can take a sabbatical with benefits. The company emphasizes philanthropy and has an employee volunteer program called Nokia Helping Hands.

Nokia pens a blog, and you can follow the company on Twitter, Facebook and Linkedin.

Recruiting

Nokia uses recruiters who vet potential candidates before interviews progress to meetings with hiring managers. It actively recruits on college campuses and offers paid internships.
