Overview

Micron Technology Inc., based in Boise, Idaho, is one of the world's top makers of computer memory chips. Its products are used in a wide variety of electronic gear, including personal computers, servers, digital cameras and portable music players.

Two of Micron's biggest customers are PC giant Hewlett-Packard Co. and Intel Corp., the world's dominant supplier of PC processor chips. Micron's biggest rivals are Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd.and Hynix Semiconductor Inc.

Prices for memory chips are set by a commodity spot market, which fluctuates wildly at times and can lead to frequent boom and bust cycles for Micron. In 2009, the company laid off 500 employees.

Culture

An Education Assistance Program provides tuition support for job and/or industry related courses and degree programs. Targeted courses and degree-granting programs are made available on-site for employees at some locations.

An on-site fitness center in Boise, Idaho, is available and free to all Micron employees, including interns. With 8,000 square feet, the fitness center features exercise and weight rooms, a dry sauna and a staff of full-time fitness consultants.

Recruiting
