Overview

Intuit Inc. makes finance software for consumers and small businesses. It was one of the first software makers to offer sophisticated tax and accounting software to those customers. Intuit products include well-known programs such as Quicken, Quickbooks and TurboTax.

The company also offers payroll products, software for accounting professionals and online outsourced services for banks and credit unions.

Intuit is headquartered in Mountain View, Calif., and has offices in the U.S., Canada, Asia, the U.K. and Australia.

Intuit recently acquired Medfusion, which makes healthcare-related software. In 2009 it sold its Intuit Real Estate Solutions unit to a private-equity firm.

Culture

Intuit has long ranked in Fortune magazine’s 100 Best Companies to Work For. Among its perks: employee opportunities to telecommute and a $65 daily subsidy for in-home care when a child is sick or school is closed. In 2009, Fortune cited Intuit’s green initiatives, such as handing employees mass-transit subsidies of up to $100 per month and banning plastic water bottles from its camuses.
