Overview

Citrix Systems Inc. was one of the first sellers of software systems that let corporate employees remotely access computer data and application programs. The Fort Lauderdale, Fla.-based company more recently has moved toward hosting its customers' data and software on Intenet-linked servers, a trend known as cloud computing.

Citrix, through its 2007 acquisition of XenSource, is also a seller of virtualization software, which allows companies to add more computer server and storage capacity to their networks without having to buy new machines. It faces intense competition in that market from storage giant EMC Corp., which bought VMWare in 2004. Several reports in 2009 identified Citrix as a possible acquisition target, but it has so far remained independent.

The company’s products, which include XenDesktop, XenApp, GoToMeeting, GoToMyPC, CitrixXenServer and Citrix Essentials, are used by more than 230,000 organizations worldwide. Citrix has offices throughout the U.S. and in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia.

Culture
