E-mail advertising start-up LiveIntent will hire 20 new employees during the next year after raising $8 million in a financing round led by Shasta Ventures. The New York-based company currently has 23 employees.
LiveIntent allows advertisers to individualize their messages in the email newsletters of publishers like, say, MSNBC. The ad is chosen once the email is opened, and which ad shows up depends on the reader's location, device and the time of day they are opening it, said Dave Hendricks, chief operating officer and chief financial officer.
"We're building a sustainable technology company whose software will be used by everybody who uses the Internet, whether they know it or not," he said.
Half of the company's new hires will be for technical people, and split between front- and back-end operations, said Kyle Brown, vice president of engineering. The company is looking for engineers skilled in Javascript, jQuery, HTML, CSS, PHP, and MySQL. There are opportunities both for new college grads along with experienced engineers, Brown said.
LiveIntent isn't your stereotypical tech start-up, Hendricks said, with everyone playing foosball everyday. Employees are expected to work hard, and be able to handle the "sturm and drang," or "storm and stress" of working at a business-to-business software company.
"This isn't a 'bring your dog to work' place," he said. "This is a 'bring your A-game to work' place."
The company declined to discuss revenues, and said that its cash compensation is competitive. Equity is available.
