Meebo, a startup that provides instant messaging and social networking tools, is hiring about a dozen engineers as it expands following a $25 million funding round.
The Mountain View, Calif.-based company is looking for operations engineers, candidates with experience in data analysis and user interface design, and front-end Web developers with experience coding in Java and Python.
Meebo also has more than 20 other openings for sales, marketing and product manager positions, according to its website.
The company prefers engineering candidates who have built Internet platforms used by either consumers or online advertisers.
Most of the engineering jobs are located at the company's Silicon Valley headquarters, while many of the sales and marketing positions are in New York.
Meebo's software toolbar acts like an extension on Internet browsers that lets users chat without leaving the Web page that they have open. The company has said it reaches 180 million unique users per month via 8,000 websites that use the toolbar.
Meebo is now testing a check-in service similar to that offered by other startups such as Foursquare.
The service comes in addition to existing Meebo features that let users exchange updates and other social content without having to visit social networking sites.
